India’s Story

India's Story

Our delightful client India and her amazing Mum Emma have just made one of the most important moves of their lives, and it’s one we always get excited about at PLG: India has moved into her forever home.

And we are thrilled for her!

Finding and adapting a forever home for India

India has cerebral palsy and lives in the Cotswolds with her mum Emma. Things have been tough for Emma and India and she has looked after her daughter herself brilliantly for years, starting off in a tiny flat before PLG found her a more suitable rental.

But what has been the best part of sharing India’s journey has been finding and adapting her new forever home. It would be fair to say that when we found a property in a village close to Cirencester it was less than inspiring: a drab 1960’s bungalow which had not had much done to it since and at best could be described as pretty run-down.

seeing the potential of a property

But what Glenn Hotchin, Director of PLG, could see was the potential the property offered.

“This project has been one of the most collaborative I have been involved with. With clever design, input of a brilliant multi-disciplinary team, Emma’s tireless energy and everyone’s can-do attitude, we have been able to convert a rather shabby bungalow into a fantastic family home for India.”

adapting the home to make it accessible

The bungalow offers ensuite accommodation for Emma, guest space and a suite for carers including ensuite and kitchenette. There’s a nice cosy snug where Emma and India can snuggle up and watch the TV together and on those long summer days, there’s a fully accessible garden to enjoy.

The dramatic conversion of the old pool room in the bungalow into the most stunning kitchen living room is one of the highlights of the property. Light and airy, with large doors onto a wrap around patio, this huge space is the heart of the home.

India’s own suite of accommodation is fabulous. Input from the multi-disciplinary team and family has been really instrumental in how the architectural team designed this project to cater specifically for all of India’s needs, and the result is stunning.

India's forever home

As OT Ellie Bircher explains:

“Its about making the environment completely accessible for her and to enjoy life to the fullest and have lots of opportunities” she added “There is always a risk when doing adapted properties that they can look a little bit clinical and a bit functional but Emma’s input has made this a home and it is absolutely beautiful. Its been lovely to work with the team to make this dream a reality for her”.

Case Manager James added:

“I don’t think we can articulate exactly how this will change India’s life and to have everything on hand and in house will be absolutely fantastic.”

We have said for many years that regardless of any settlement the end of the journey for our clients is an emotional move to the forever home. This case has certainly underlined that thought to the max. It seems fitting to leave the last word to India’s mum, Emma:

“I cant quite believe we have our own hydro-pool that she will love as it is an activity she can do at home. We just love it!”

India and Emma, everyone at PLG and the wider team wish you every happiness in your new home!
