Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Day is being marked by the Spinal Injuries Association on 13th May this year and we thought it was a good time to reflect on some of the ways we have been able to help some of our clients with SCI.
We always love involving our clients in finding and adapting their own properties. And we find some of those with SCI some of the most inspirational. It is really important to us that we can achieve their goals in terms of therapy space, family space and space for relaxation. We know that this will ensure that everyone in the house is happy! And we know how rewarding it can be both for the client and for us when they have played an important part in the design.
We know how fiercely independent some of our clients with SCI can be, so we are able to adapt properties which mean that they can use their own wet room or cook the family meals with adaptations being made to the kitchen. And we also know that being able to access the garden safely and to enjoy the garden using raised beds can help restore that ever important independence.
And we never suggest that the only option is single storey properties. Where a house suits the individual, then we can always look to install a through floor lift so that our client has access to all parts of his or her home.
We value the input of our clients with SCI as it makes us appreciate just how unique everyone’s needs are and just how amazing our clients really are!
We wish all those awesome people with a spinal cord injury the very best on Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Day.
