Sandy’s Story
Sandra has come a long way on a difficult journey but she is now in her beautiful new home and she says herself “I can’t believe this is my house.”
Due to a delayed diagnosis of meningitis, Sandra has multiple limb loss and some cognitive impairment. PLG became involved finding her a rental property but it was in the design of her new home that Sandra really shone. A fiercely independent lady, she was determined to have a big say on the design and development of her first home. With her enthusiasm she won the hearts of all of us here at PLG who were on this amazing journey with her.
Although much of the building work took place during Covid lockdowns, and despite Sandra’s disabilities, she was fully involved in the design and building which was inspirational for everyone involved in the project. Her excitement at moving in has made the whole team really happy. As PLG architect Richard Jones says about Sandra moving into her new home, “the best thing is seeing the difference this makes”.
We love sharing these stories and seeing the happiness a new adapted home can bring to people like Sandra. When she says “there’s nothing you cannot like about this house – it’s really lovely” we know we’ve made a big difference to her life.
