Sandy’s Story

Sandy's House

“Wow, this is my house!” – Sandy’s words when she first saw her new home completed. She said herself that there was “blood, sweat and tears” put into getting this house just perfect and it has certainly been an emotional journey for all involved.
Sandy was left with multiple limb loss and some cognitive impairment as a consequence of meningitis which tragically should have been diagnosed much sooner. But she was fiercely independent and was determined to have a home she could call her own.

finding a rental property for Sandy

PLG became involved when Sandy was 7 months pregnant and living in a one bedroom flat. It was a matter of extreme urgency to settle her into a rental property. And with the clock ticking, we did just that. Glenn Hotchin, Director at PLG, has been on the journey with Sandy throughout:

“We worked so hard to find Sandy a good rental property as quickly as we could and managed to make the necessary adaptations including installing ramps and a wet room in time for the arrival of her baby”.

finding and adapting Sandy's forever home

After she had moved into the rental property, the search began for Sandy’s permanent home. Sandy’s forever home was finally located close to all local amenities. The property that had been on the site was demolished and Sandy’s dream home was built. And Sandy has had so much say in how the property was going to look and work. She was involved in where the property was going to be and then at every stage of the planning and building. Glenn Hotchin

Glenn goes on to say,

“Sandy had such a clear vision of the home she wanted to create and she was keen to form part of the team with us and the contractors to see this project all the way through to completion, even against the backdrop of Covid. She’s a remarkable lady!”,

The perfect family home

She has been able to create the perfect family home from scratch which accommodates her particular needs and gives her all the independence she wants. And six months ago she cut the ribbon on her beautiful new home.

As she said herself on the handover day, ”what’s not to like about it?”.

Sandy, we couldn’t agree with you more!
