Three organisations, Three Peaks and one BIG challenge!

Three organisations, three peaks and one BIG challenge

When Rothley Law first approached PLG about their charity challenge to complete the Three Peaks challenge, we were definitely up for helping out.

Rothley Law have nominated Headway Birmingham & Solihull as their Charity of the Year, and the charity is set to benefit not only from the fundraising linked to The Three Peaks Challenge but also from some volunteer help from the Rothley team in the gardens of Headway’s south Birmingham brain injury hub.

The endurance challenge, taking place between 26-27 September, will see a team of eight from Rothley Law climb the tallest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales in just 48 hours. Our Director Philip Gill volunteered to be one of two drivers over the weekend.

They aim to raise a minimum of £2000 but are now aiming higher by being sponsored to climb Snowdon (1,085m), Scarfell Pike (978m) and Ben Nevis (1,345m). The total walking distance is 23 miles (37km) and the total ascent is 3,408 meters.

Training for the big weekend started on 3 March when the Rothley team took a rather snowy practice walk at Pen Y Fan, Wales. Despite the conditions, they we very pleased to complete the course within the ‘trail time’ and all get down in one piece.

Andriy Buniak, Senior Associate at Rothley Law, has completed the Three Peaks Challenge before and is giving plenty of tips to the team about training and preparation. Andriy is planning to write blogs about the challenge and share the team’s experiences over the coming months as they build up their training towards the big event.

Andriy Buniak said:

Our challenge team represents all three service areas at Rothley: Court of Protection, Private Wealth and Disputed Will and Trusts. We will also rely on the support of the rest of our colleagues, sponsors, family and friends in our fundraising efforts.

“We aim to raise much needed funds for Headway Birmingham & Solihull, which is a charity very close to our hearts, so that they can continue their excellent work in promoting understanding and information to support people with brain injuries.”

As part of the build up to the event, Rothley Law and PLG are planning a series of joint fund-raising activities, including an internal competition to see how many miles each team member can each record before the big event.

PLG will also be supporting volunteering days, by helping out in the gardens of Headway’s Leighton House brain injury centre in Rednal and offering their no so green fingered skills by tidying up on volunteer days in April and May.

Phillip Gill, Director of PLG, explained:
This is such a great challenge and I can’t wait to support the team on this big charity adventure. It will be vital that they get as much rest as possible between the challenges and I am delighted to be able to keep them fed, watered and moving to the next location, so that they can succeed.

“The monies that Rothley Law aim to raise for Headway Brimingham & Solihull will provide an unbelievable amount of much needed support for such an important cause. The work the charity does to support people with acquired brain injuries and help them to move on with the next stage of their lives is vital.”

Sue Tyler, CEO at Headway Birmingham & Solihull, added:

“Having an acquired brain injury is very much an uphill challenge for both the person with the injury, and their wider families, and so Rothley Law’s choice of challenge really couldn’t be more apt. With some rigorous training under their belts and lots of enthusiasm, we feel sure they will conquer The Three Peaks in September, raising greater awareness around brain injury and some much-needed funds towards our local brain injury services as they do so. We can’t thank them enough for their efforts on our behalf!”
