Glenn Hotchin: Creating Independence Through Property

Glenn Hotchin, co-founder of PLG, shares his journey, the company’s mission, and how they support clients with complex property needs after catastrophic injuries.

Q: Can you explain your background and how you joined PLG?

Glenn Hotchin: For over 15 years, I’ve worked with individuals who have sustained catastrophic injuries due to clinical negligence or personal injury. Along the way, I’ve taken on various roles focused on supporting clients with their property interests, helping them navigate everything from sourcing and negotiating rental properties to overseeing acquisitions, design, planning, and construction.

My work also involves conducting due diligence, facilitating the release of assets, and resolving disputes—always with the aim of making the process as smooth and stress-free as possible.

In 2012, I co-founded PLG with Phill after identifying a clear need for joined-up thinking and a more seamless delivery of property matters for clients who have suffered catastrophic injuries. I’m proud to have played a part in PLG’s growth and success, working alongside a fantastic team to support our clients.

Q: What does your role entail day-to-day now?

Glenn Hotchin: I oversee the operations and finance of PLG, essentially ensuring the smooth running of the business. My role involves providing direction and advice to team leaders and members on project and case matters and liaising with instructing partners on service requirements on a day-to-day basis.

Q: Clients often face challenges with rental properties. How does PLG handle these situations?

Glenn Hotchin: There are so many answers to this question, and I do an entire presentation on it, but my philosophy has always been to apply massive amounts of common sense to the process.

One of the things I always advocate is never paying 12 months of rent upfront. Many professionals often assume it’s necessary, but it’s not. We’ve found ways to meet referencing requirements without handing over large sums of money.

This is only one small element, but it indicates how best practice in the process can help protect a client’sinterests. A key factor is understanding what objections a landlord or agent might have ahead of time so they can be dealt with at the outset without compromising our client’s position.

Again, it’s a full session in its own right, but it’s an area I am really passionate about. When managed in the right way, rentals are often the best short-to-mid-term solution for clients, while our clients are often the best solution for a landlord – they just need to understand why!

Q: What have been some of the most rewarding aspects of the work you have been involved in at PLG?

Glenn Hotchin: One of the most rewarding moments for me was a project in East Anglia for a client who is now an adult with cerebral palsy, stemming from injuries sustained at birth. We worked on his family home, adapting it to his needs following his parents moving out, allowing him to live with greater independence alongside his care regime.

A year after we completed the project, I went back to check on the property and saw the incredible difference it had made in his life. He’d gone from being completely reliant on care to moving around independently in his wheelchair, communicating differently, and using parts of the house he’d never been able to access before. It was amazing to see how much a change in his environment had improved his quality of life.

From a business perspective, I’m proud of how we’ve grown. It hasn’t been easy, but we’ve built something that makes a real difference in people’s lives. We’ve always focused on raising the bar—continuously improving our standards and services. The core idea behind PLG hasn’t changed: we’re here to find solutions for people in difficult situations and to support them through their property journey.
