Ellie: Compassionate Problem Solving at PLG

At PLG, compassion and problem-solving go hand in hand—and no one embodies that better than Ellie. With a background in people-focused roles and a passion for making a difference, she brings warmth, tenacity and heart to every property search.

Q: Can you tell me a bit about your career path and how you ended up at PLG?

Ellie: I went to university, then travelled before moving to London, where I worked as a PA. There are definitely transferable skills from that—like balancing everything and working to tight deadlines, which helps in my current role. While in London, I volunteered with a charity called North London Cares, working with older people affected by the city’s gentrification. It was really fulfilling, and when I saw this job at PLG, I thought it would be a nice way to continue making a difference.

Q: What do you do day to day at PLG?

Ellie: Duties vary day to day, but the main task is property searching in the mornings, in addition to afternoon searches. Building relationships with agents is key, even though the property stock is quite limited at the moment.

We support and assist our clients based on their individual needs; arranging viewings, negotiating and submitting offers, and co-ordinating tenancies and purchases to the end.

Q: What are the biggest challenges in finding suitable properties for clients?

Ellie: The main challenge is the lack of stock. Agents tell us they don’t have much available and the market is challenging at present, and that can make things tough. But it’s important to keep communication open with clients and be honest with them. Even if there isn’t much of an update, I try to keep them informed and never let the communication go silent.

Q: How do you manage client expectations when the property market is tough?

Ellie: If a search hasn’t been successful after a few months, we usually set up a Zoom meeting to review the search area and discuss other options. Most clients are open to adjusting their search criteria when necessary and we keep them updated regularly.

Q: What are the most enjoyable aspects of your job?

Ellie: I really enjoy working with clients, organising viewings, and just having that direct contact. It was especially nice when I met my client Vanessa and her case manager in person—we really clicked, and it made the process more personal. It’s also rewarding when agents start to understand the complexities of what we do, like the litigation and funding aspects. Educating them on that has made things smoother lately.

Q: Can you tell me about a standout client experience?

Ellie: One that comes to mind who had a long search for a property, about a year. She has visual impairments and behavioural issues, so it was important to find a home that suited her needs. I found a property with a railway line at the bottom of the garden, and I was concerned about the noise, but I encouraged the family to view. At the handover, her mum told me that without my encouragement, they wouldn’t have gone for it, and now it’s her forever home.

Q: How would you describe PLG’s ethos?

Ellie: I’d say we’re compassionate problem solvers. Every day involves finding solutions to different challenges, whether it’s with clients or properties. It’s all about working together to solve problems and make a difference.
