More than a year of growth. A reflection on people, pressure and why the work matters.

Blog post by Managing Director - Phill Gill on More than a year of growth.

2025 and all that…

So, how are we all? Did you navigate the relatives and celebrate when they left? Did you get the present you wanted? How were you feeling on Thursday morning? Hopefully, most of you didn’t have to work on Friday and have had the weekend to recharge, recover and get set for today.

At PLG, we felt that everybody deserved a proper break. We closed for two weeks for the first time ever to make sure everyone had time to spend with their families, recharge their batteries and think about things other than work. From a personal point of view, some of you know that I have been unbelievably lucky enough to have had a short sabbatical, which is now nearing its end. It has given me hugely valuable time to reflect on many things, both personally and professionally, but especially on what we have achieved throughout 2025. At PLG, we use stats and data. A lot. And when I say a lot, I mean that we rarely make a decision, either as a business or for a client, that is not backed up by information we have gathered.

Whichever metric you choose, 2025 was our best year by a mile. In 2025 we completed more proposals, more reports, more viewings, agreed more rentals, agreed more purchases, completed more deals, designed more homes, obtained more planning consents, including the fastest on record in just 22 days, sent out more tenders, started more projects, managed more projects and completed more projects.

Basically, whichever metric you look at, it was bigger than ever before. But for me, there is only ever one number that really matters. In 2025, we worked with an incredible 158 clients. That is 158 people who have had to deal with a catastrophic situation. Each of them has families, friends, colleagues, neighbours and countless other connections. When you stop and think about it, the number of lives you affect when working in this field, both directly and indirectly, is phenomenal.

We are intensely proud of the work that we do, but we also recognise that there are many others who work in this space and do an incredible job too. I have touched on this before, but when you are at the coal face day in and day out, it is not always easy to step back and reflect.

There are larger companies like ours, but there are also many smaller organisations and sole traders who do fantastic work.

Everything you do is vitally important. No client is more or less important, because every single person you deal with genuinely needs your help and knowledge. Because of that, the pressure is always there. All day, every day. It is tough, but that is also what makes it so rewarding.

As the first full week of 2026 begins, it would be great if you could take a few minutes to reflect on the good you did in 2025. Think about the positive effect you had on someone whose life was turned upside down, and the ripple effect that can have on everyone around them. Hopefully that reflection will have a positive impact as this new, and probably challenging, year begins.

At PLG, we have built a knowledgeable and experienced team that excels at finding the right properties and designing homes that are fit for purpose. In most situations, we have someone who can offer the right advice or guidance. While we are here to do the very best job we can for our clients, we also regularly help peers with an idea or simply a steer in the right direction.

If you ever have any queries, however big or small, please feel free to get in touch. My colleagues are a truly lovely bunch and are always happy to help. In the meantime, remember that what you do makes an unbelievable difference, and here’s to a great 2026.
